In 1932, automobile manufacturing reached its lowest point since 1918 and the advent of the used car rose to great prominence in the automotive community.

Hello, my name is Aubrey Brasfield this website is a tribute to my grandfather who in the 1940’s opened a Store, Sold Gas which later turned into an Automotive Repair & Body Shop. At one point the shop was only my grandfather and his brother (working) BRASFIELD BROS. I worked there putting away tools, sweeping the floor & filling the soda machine. Later I began doing major automotive repairs and towing cars. I continued to work for my grandfather & Uncles until I joined the US Force age 17.

Planned Obsolescence, the Great Depression and WWII created a market for used car sales, the auto mechanic and body shop repair.

In 1942, the U.S. manufacture of automobiles come to a halt “during World War II”, generating a need for used cars. By April 1944, only 30,000 new cars out of the initial stockpile were left. The US Government even considered restricting used car sales, although not done states began restricting gasoline to support the war and drivers were limited to just 3 gallons per week.

Around 1935 GM established annual styling changes, from which came the concept of planned obsolescence - meaning frequent changes to the automobile body, the auto body shop was born.
